PERU, Lima, 8 reales-sized proclamation medal, Ferdinand VII, 1808, Viceroy Abascal, by Soto. Fonrobert-8968; Herrera-28; Medina-313. Obverse with bust of king within legend FERDINANDUS VII • D • G • HISP • ET IND • REX•; reverse with crowned Lima city arms between Pillars of Hercules, ABASCAL / 13 OCTOB / 1808 below, all within legend PUBLICAE • FIDELITATIS • JURAM • LIMAE•; laurel edge. XF with rich cabinet toning, slightly off-center strike. Curiously, the bust on this piece resembles the transitional "admiral bust" on coins from the Santiago mint in Chile.
